Elina Avanesyan v Petra Martic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players with Avanesyan having won both times. Both these matches came in 2024 with their first match having been in the qualifiers of the Eastbourne competition and the second in a WTA 125 event in Iasi.
Avanesyan Takes Down Siniakova
Elina Avanesyan had gone into her opening round match against Katerina Siniakova as a 7/10 favourite and while that meant she was a bit of a favourite, not too many would have expected the manner in which she went on to win it.
In a match that went on for a mere hour and 12 minutes, Avanesyan dropped only five gams on her way to her victory.
An early break of serve in the first set helped Avanesyan take a 4-1 lead before she completed the set win. Things went from bad to worse for her opponent as Avanesyan broke her three times in a row and while she lost her own serve once, there was no looking back for her.
This follows a third round showing at the Brisbane International and a semifinal appearance in Hobart for Avanesyan.

Martic Shocks Lys
We had spoken in our preview to this opening round match how Eva Lys will need to realise her fairy tale from the Australian Open is a great story but one in the past.
While we still expected Lys to win her opener against Petra Martic, we did feel there was a good chance that the Croat would give a good account of herself.
And that’s exactly how things went – Martic came back from the loss of the second set to grab a three-set win.
Martic needed two hours and 42 minutes to get there, was broken four times but did well to keep her mind over matter heading into the third set.
She broke Lys in the very first game and then again when her opponent served to stay in the match.
Can Martic now translate her first main draw win of the season into something better?
Avanesyan v Martic Prediction
Avanesyan has too much going right for her and we believe she should make it through to the last eight with some ease. Expecting her to do this in two.
Avanesyan v Martic Tips
- Avanesyan to win: 1/3
- Avanesyan to win in straight sets: 5/6
