Andrey Rublev v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head
There have been six previous meetings between these two players and interestingly, Basilashvili has won three of them. This includes their latest meeting which came in Halle in 2022 after Rublev had won their previous match-up at the same venue in the previous season.
Their only previous meeting indoors came in Rotterdam in 2020 and Rublev came away an easy winner.
Rublev Finally Wins a Match
Andrey Rublev will finally heave a sigh of relief after winning his first match of the new season.
The Russian overcame Christopher Eubanks 6-4, 6-3 following on from his opening defeats in Hong Kong and at the Australian Open.
He was on court for a mere 66 minutes as he eased to a victory, saving all three of the break-points he faced in the encounter. In turn Rublev got the better of his opponent’s serve three time to seal off the victory.
His previous two matches had resulted in defeats to Fabian Marozsan (at Hong Kong) and Joao Fonseca (at the Australian Open). Can he now change that to two successive wins?

Basilashvili Stuns Rinderknech
Once ranked 16th in the world, Nikoloz Basilashvili has gone through some difficult times on court and with the lack of results has come a drastic fall in his rankings.
This year, however, there seems to be a change in his the manner in which he’s playing, giving it a lot more. It could be down to better fitness or a resolution of off-court issues but either ways one hopes for his sake it’s not a false dawn.
Because the manner in which he took down Arthur Rinderknech was a sight to behold.
Having entered the tournament as a qualifier with wins over Manuel Gigante and Titouan Droguet, Basilashvili had earlier gotten past Mikhail Kukushkin in three sets.
Here he blanked Arthur Rinderknech in the first set, bagelling him in 23 minutes and when his opponent fought back in the second and even broke him early, Basilashvili kept himself in the game.
Basilashvili won in the tie-breaker to seal off his place in the quarterfinal, his first in a while.
Rublev v Basilashvili Prediction
Rublev is 1/5 to win this, which is no surprise given the difference in the quality of tennis the two have played over their recent careers but the big question for us is if he can do that in straight sets. We think Rublev could face difficulties in that regard.
