Elise Mertens v Camila Osorio Head to Head
These two have played each other twice before this and Mertens has won both times.
The first meeting came at the 2022 Wimbledon where Osorio retired from the match while trailing 4-2 in the final set before Mertens beat her again at the 2023 French Open.
Mertens Stretched by Maria
Tatjana Maria has been known to put up a fight when least expected and quality was sure on display when she faced Elise Mertens in the second round in Singapore.
Starting out a 1/4 favourite before the match, Mertens was forced to come back from being a set down to beat Maria 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1 in a match lasting two hours and 17 minutes.
Mertens was down 0-3 in the first set before she levelled things out, only to lose the tie-breaker. She then went a break down in the second set and was staring at a defeat when things turned drastically.
She broke right back and then doubled that with a second successive break to grab the set. And with the wind taken off her sails, Maria was broken three more times in the final set.
This follows Mertens’ 6-1, 6-0 victory over Taylor Townsend in the first round, with the Belgian having also made the final of the Hobart International at the start of the season.

Osorio Scrapes Past Salkova
Camila Osorio has had a couple of good first round wins this season so far, having defeated Maria Sakkari at the Hobart International and then overcome Yue Yuan at the Australian Open.
However she had been unable to go past the second round, losing at that stage in both the aforementioned competitions.
Till now that is.
Having needed three sets to overcome Bernarda Pera in the first round here, Osorio was pushed the corner by Dominika Salkova before she came through in a fighting match and registered her second win in a row.
Osorio, who was 11/20 going into the match, defeated Salkova 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in a match lasting nearly two hours. What might bother Osorio heading into this quarterfinal is the fact that she was broken six times in the encounter and while she did get 19 break-points of her, she will need to do a lot better on her own serve here.
Mertens v Osorio Prediction
Mertens starts off with a huge advantage here given her prior record against Osorio and the fact that she is a better player on hardcourt surfaces as compared to Osorio. Expecting a straight-set win here.
