Ann Li v Kimberly Birrell Head to Head
Li and Birrell have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Li Crushes Timofeeva
For the second match in a row, Ann Li seemed to have no trouble whatsoever getting past her opponent and in trust she managed to seal her place in the quarterfinals.
What that meant was it was only the second time since last July that Li had won back to back matches at this level.
Li was on court for a mere 68 minutes as she routed Maria Timofeeva 6-3, 6-2. She was broken just once in the match but she responded with four of her own as she romped to a win.
Earlier Li had beaten Daria Saville, dropping just four games on her way, following on from her second round appearances at the Auckland Open and Hobart International.

Birrell Coming off Hard-Fought Win over Baptiste
It took Kimberly Birrell nearly three hours of court time to find a way to get past Hailey Baptiste and seal her quarterfinal berth.
The Aussie, who had earlier in the season won three matches in a row to make the Brisbane International quarterfinals, showed what she is capable of as she came back from being a set down and later 2-5 down in the final set to win a nerve-wracking battle.
In the decider, Birrell looked like she was running out of ideas when she lost her serve in the second game and failed to earn a single break-point till Baptiste served for the match.
Even there, she frittered away three break-points before getting back on serve and then made it two breaks in a row in the 11th game. Baptiste had one chance to break back but Birrell saved that and converted the first match-point she got to advance.
She had earlier defeated Polina Kudermetova with ease in the first round.
Li v Birrell Prediction
This seems to be an even battle with Li being in some top form in the tournament while Birrell having won a few big matches already this year. We could end up seeing a long battle again and one that could go into the third set.
