Karolina Muchova v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head

Other than their first meeting which came in 2017 on the ITF circuit – and Muchova had won – they have faced off three more times at the highest level and Muchova leads 2-1.

This includes a 2-0 record for Muchova in their last two meetings which came at the 2023 Canadian Open and 2024 US Open.

Potapova Sends Out Sramkova

A 11/20 favourite entering her second round match against Rebecca Sramkova, Anastasia Potapova looked to be in the thick of the battle when she failed to serve out the opening set at 5-3 and was taken into the tie-breaker.

Fortunately for the Russian, she managed to clinch it 7-1 to bring herself some breathing space after nearly an hour of tennis.

The second set looked to be going to the same script with Potapova breaking first and Sramkova levelling out things at 4-4. This time, Potapova crashed into the party by breaking right back and then serving it out to win 7-6 (1), 6-4 and make the quarterfinals.

This followed a straight-set win over Julia Grabher in the first round and a third round and a second round appearance at the Brisbane International and Australian Open respectively for Potapova.

Muchova Blows Sorribes Tormo Away

There was a reason that Karolina Muchova had gone into her second round match against Sara Sorribes Tormo as a 1/5 favourite. She was that strong against a player who has been struggling to find her footing in recent times.

And Muchova lived every bit of that favourites tag, needing less than an hour and a half to defeat the Spaniard 6-2, 6-3.

Following a first round bye, Muchova did not face a single break-point in the first set and it was only in the second that she faced some challenge. She lost her serve while looking to go 5-2 ahead but quickly regained the advantage by breaking Sorribes Tormo in the very next game.

She soon served it out to register fourth win of the season to go with three defeats. Those losses had come at the hands of Iga Swiatek, Cori Gauff and Naomi Osaka, three of the toughest opponents she would have faced.

Muchova v Potapova Prediction

Muchova’s been in a good rhythm and we think she should come through this one and do that in straight sets again.
