While Maria Sakkari had gone into her quarterfinal against Dayana Yastremska as a favourite, we had a different view about it (in our preview here). Yastremska’s shown enough consistency through last season and the short while in 2025 for one to not take her lightly.
And that’s how things turned out in their encounter, with Yastremska clinching a 7-5, 6-0 win in an hour and 21 minutes.
She started off slowly, getting broken in the very first game but quickly broke in the next. This continued in the next two games as well with Yastremska becoming the first player to retain her serve in the fifth game of the match.
From there on, there was no looking back for the Ukrainian player, and while she did face a few break-points, she saved them and broke Sakkari in the 12th game. And once she had won the set, she pounced on the slightly surprised Sakkari’s serve by breaking her three more times in a row.
This follows a third round appearance for Yastremska at the Australian Open and a quarterfinal in Hobart.

Tauson Blanks Blinkova
Clara Tauson’s rich vein of form refuses to abate.
In her 11th match of the season, Tauson registered her 10th win this year by defeating Anna Blinkova in straight sets and moved into the semifinals.
She took an hour and 48 minutes and was forced to break her opponent twice in the first set after dropping her serve before clinching the victory.
A winner at the Auckland Open earlier this season, Tauson has now made her second semifinal in three competitions and has wins over the likes of Madison Keys, Sofia Kenin, Linda Noskova and Anhelina Kalinina in 2025 already.
She will be confident to add Yastremska to her list.
