Rinky Hijikata v Adrian Mannarino Preview
Head-to-Head: There was one previous meeting between these two players with Mannarino beating Hijikata in that one. It came in the 2023 Newport Open.
Rinky Hijikata was knocked out in the first round at the Australian Open by Mitchell Krueger, forcing him to feature in a Challenger tournament in Brisbane the following week.
There, the Aussie native made the second round before losing to James McCabe.
Earlier this season, Hijikata did surprise a few with his run to the quarterfinals at the Adelaide International after having gotten knocked out in the qualifiers before that. As a lucky loser he defeated Brandon Nakashima and David Goffin in the tournament.
And he would like to do the same to the 107th-ranked Mannarino whose on-court struggles have only increased in recent times.
Mannarino has featured in five tournaments this season and lost six times – including twice in the same tournament, after having made it through as a lucky loser. He is on a four-match losing streak which includes a first round loss at the Quimper Challenger too.
Hijikata v Mannarino prediction: Hijikata to win: 8/11
Roberto Carballes Baena v Michael Mmoh Preview
Head-to-Head: No previous matches have been played between Carballes Baena and Mmoh.
Roberto Carballes Baena’s recent resurgence has seen him break into the top 50 but more vitally, he has also started to win matches outside of clay.
In none of the seasons since 2014 had Carballes Baena won more than four outdoor hardcourt matches in a year in his career. Then, in 2024, the Spaniard won 10, which included a quarterfinal appearance in Auckland and Hangzhou and a third round showing in Shanghai.
And he has carried that form into 2025 by making it to the third round at the Australian Open as well – his best ever Grand Slam performance.
He will be up against the 422nd-ranked Michael Mmoh who is looking to come back from fitness-related poor form. Mmoh, who had hit his career-best ranking of 81 in 2023, suffered an elbow injury the following year which put him out of action from April onward.
The American came back to competitive tennis at the Cleveland Challenger late last month and now won both his qualifiers to enter the main draw. For now he will be looking to compete and win the odd match or two to get his ranking back up again.
Carballes Baena v Mmoh prediction: Carballes Baena to win: 11/20
