Jiri Lehecka v Alexei Popyrin Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in Miami last year and Popyrin had won 6-4, 6-4 in that.
Lehecka Form Looks Hard to Surmount
With all the talk around Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the world of tennis, attention is often not given to those languishing down the rankings chart.
One such player is Jiri Lehecka, who, to be fair to the experts, had been given a bit of a chance when he took to court for his Australian Open against Novak Djokovic.
Lehecka put up a bit of a fight but still went down in straight sets.
So what’s so special about Lehecka? Well, he had entered that match against Djokovic on the back of an eight-match winning streak.
He had garnered that through a title at the Brisbane International where he overcame Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov on his way to the victory.
And Lehecka followed that up with three wins at the Australian Open which took him to that Djokovic match in the fourth round.
Can he now continue that run against a rather tough opponent first up?

Popyrin Hoping to Overcome Poor Start
Last August, Alexei Popyrin made his career-best ranking of 23rd in the world. He carried on the good form by making the fourth round at the US Open after that and entered round three in Paris before calling it quits for the season.
Things haven’t gone to plan in the new season though.
Popyrin kick-started 2025 with an appearance at the Brisbane International and started out in a rather underwhelming manner. He won just five games in his loss to Matteo Arnaldi.
The Aussie then went into the first Grand Slam of the year and was drawn to face Corentin Moutet, who was a whopping 7/2 going into the match. Popyrin lost that too in four sets.
A turnaround is needed and quickly at that but one wonders if Popyrin is fully fit, having also suffered a glute injury during that Australian Open defeat.
Lehecka v Popyrin Prediction
There’s no way one cannot back Lehecka here but at some point this season Popyrin could turn things around and even if he doesn’t win we could see a fighting encounter. Could it be this match? We think that’s a fair possibility.
Lehecka v Popyrin Tips
- Lehecka to win: 2/5
- Over 20.5 games in the match: 4/9
