Brandon Nakashima v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
Their only previous meeting at this level came at the Delray Beach Open in 2020 and Nishioka had won that in three sets. They met again on the Challenger circuit last year and it was the turn of Nakashima to clinch it this time.
Nakashima 1-3 for the Season
It has been a poor start to the season for Brandon Nakashima, who was 35th in the ATP Rankings last year. Since hitting that mark in September, Nakashima hasn’t done too well and over the next 12 matches that he has played, he has won just three.
This includes a 1-3 win-loss record for this new season in which Nakashima has already lost in the first round of the Hong Kong Open and Australian Open and in the second round at Adelaide.
Two of those defeats have come against Lorenzo Sonego and Rinky Hijikata, both of whom had gone their respective encounters against Nakashima at 6/5 or above odds.
Nakashima now has the chance to turn things around at home but will need to do a lot better here.

Nishioka Shows Form in Davis Cup
Yoshihito Nishioka had had a decent start to the season when he made it through the qualifiers in Brisbane to make the main draw. There he overcame Arthur Rinderknech before losing in the second round.
While Thanasi Kokkinakis got the better of Nishioka in the first round at Adelaide, the Japanese player made the second round at the Australian Open too.
And then in the week preceding this competition, Nishioka helped Japan overcome Great Britain in the Davis Cup by winning both his singles matches.
He defeated Billy Harris and Jacon Fearnley, both in straight sets to help Japan make the next round.
Nishioka sure looks like he could put up a show here.
