Tomas Machac v Rinky Hijikata Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these two players which came at the 2024 Brisbane International and Hijikata had won that.
Machac Blows Nishikori Out
Kei Nishikori has returned to full-fledged competitive tennis this season and has been doing well enough to suggest that he could make the top 50 and even better.
Unfortunately for Nishikori though, he ran into a rampaging Tomas Machac, who had entered this tournament at his career-best ranking of 25th in the world.
Machac, who was a 2-2 in the United Cup, and then made the third round at the Australian Open, demolished Nishikori 6-2, 6-2 to make the second round. He took only a tad over an hour to win it.
Seven aces and a first serve win percentage of over 80% punctuated his effort and to add to that he broke his opponent four times in the encounter.
He will start his second round encounter with a lot of confidence.

Hijikata Eases Past Mannarino
With Adrian Mannarino struggling to get going this season, Rinky Hijikata would have been silently happy to face him first up. And he did fine job of that too.
In a match lasting an hour and 27 minutes, Hijikata sent Mannarino packing, winning 7-5, 6-3.
What made Hijikata’s effort even more stupendous was he did not face a single break-point in the entire match while getting better of his serve on two occasions.
This effort from Hijikata follows a couple of underwhelming performances after getting knocked out in the first round at the Australian Open and another second round exit in a Challenger competition last week.
Can he put up some fight against the in-form Machac?
Machac v Hijikata Prediction
Machac should not have a lot of trouble here and we can expect him to come through in straight sets given the kind of form he has shown against players ranked behind him.
Machac v Hijikata Tips
- Machac to win in straight sets: 1/2
