Taylor Fritz v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head
There have been a whopping nine previous meetings between these two players with Shapovalov holding a slight 5-4 edge over Fritz.
Shapovalov had won their first three meetings back in the 2018-20 period but since then Fritz has held his own and defeated his opponent in Acapulco and Miami in their last two matches in 2023.
Fritz Crushes Rinderknech
Taylor Fritz would have been still a bit upset over his third round loss at the Australian Open. As a world number four he would have been expected to go deeper into the tournament but was shocked by Gael Monfils in four sets.
Which is why a strong start here in Dallas was much needed and he did just that.
Taking on Arthur Rinderknech, Fritz needed an hour and seven minutes to grab a 6-4, 6-2 victory over his opponent. The American won 27 of his 29 first serve points, faced no break-points and got the better of his opponent’s serve on three occasions.
A semifinalist in this tournament the last time he had played here in 2023, Fritz will now hope he can tame his arch-rival Denis Shapovalov and move into the last eight.

Shapovalov in a Challenging Win over Kecmanovic
It has been a forgettable start to the season for Denis Shapovalov with the Canadian having featured in three tournaments before this and won just two matches.
A first round exit at the Hong Kong Open was followed by opening wins in back to back competitions – in Adelaide and Australian Open – but those have been followed by losses in the second round.
Again, here in Dallas, he was the bookmakers’ favourite at 3/5 going into his opener against Miomir Kecmanovic and looked to have found a good rhythm to his game too.
Shapovalov earned a break of serve off the only break-point he got in the first set to take the lead and when he went 3-1 up in the second, the writing was on the wall.
His Serbian opponent broke back in the sixth game and grabbed the equaliser in the tie-breaker that followed.
After saving a break-point in the second game of the decider, Shapovalov broke Kecmanovic in the sixth game and quickly wrapped things up after that.
Fritz v Shapovalov Prediction
Fritz has the pedigree and form at the moment to ease through to the next stage despite the kind of head to head record he shares with Shapovalov. Expecting a straight-set win here.
Fritz v Shapovalov Tips
- Fritz to win in straight sets: 5/6
