Matteo Arnaldi v Jaume Munar Head to Head
There have been two ATP matches and two Challenger-level encounters between these players. It’s 2-2 with both players on 1-1 at the Challenger level and 1-1 at this highest one.
All four matches came on clay with Arnaldi winning their Barcelona Open match and Munar responding with a win at the Madrid Masters – both of which came in 2023.
Arnaldi Blows Fokina off the Court
Matteo Arnaldi had come into this tournament with just one win in the season before it. He eased past Christopher Eubanks in the first round here, which was on expected lines.
In the second round, however, Arnaldi was 11/10 against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and one thought he might find things very difficult against a player who was coming off a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open.
Things got very difficult for sure, but not for the player one thought would face those challenges.
Arnaldi, in fact, was on court for a mere 67 minutes and demolished Fokina 6-1, 6-3 to progress to the quarterfinals.
He faced a mere two break-points in the match and saved them both while getting the better of his Spanish opponent’s serve on four occasions.
Can Arnaldi now continue in the same vein against a much-improved Munar?

Munar Shocks Shelton
We have been talking about Jaume Munar and the kind of improvement he has shown in his tennis on surfaces outside of clay. And that was on display in his first round demolition of Y Bu as well.
But entering his second round encounter against Ben Shelton as a 29/5 underdog, not too many would have given him a chance here.
That Munar was able to take down the Australian Open semifinalist 6-2, 7-6 (3) in a matter of little over an hour and a half would have been satisfying to say the least.
In an interview later, Munar revealed what we have been seeing all along, there has been a concerted effort to change his game.
He said:
“I feel like everything is paying off now, but I’ve been working since two, three years ago on many things. I’ve been changing my game, trying to be more aggressive and I feel like I’m starting to be confident in it.”
It needs to be seen if Munar can now make it three wins in a row for the first time at this level since the Madrid Masters in 2023, which he had done by beating, coincidentally, Arnaldi too!
Arnaldi v Munar Prediction
Munar might have improved by leaps and bounds but Arnaldi has done well here too and both his wins have also come against tricky, challenging opponents. A fighting match can be expected with a good chance of seeing a third set.
Arnaldi v Munar Tips
- Over 19.5 games in the match: 1/2
- Three sets in the match: 13/10
