Casper Ruud v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players with Ruud leading 2-1 via wins at Madrid in 2021 and Shanghai in 2023. Nishioka’s only victory over his Norwegian opponent came in Seoul in 2022.
Ruud Sends Mmoh Packing
Michael Mmoh has had some big worries with his fitness over the years and has needed an elbow surgery to get back to the tour. That he won his opener against Roberto Carballes Baena would have been some respite for him but come the second round, he wasn’t getting any such relief from Casper Ruud.
Ruud, who is known to perform brilliantly in these ATP 250 and 500 tournaments, did not waste too much time in his 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mmoh to seal his quarterfinal place.
In a match that lasted an hour and 12 minutes, Ruud broke Mmoh twice in the first set and two more times in the second to seal the victory. He lost his serve early in the second set but that was the only he faced break-points in the encounter.
This follows a difficult three-set win in the first round over James Duckworth which makes it a win-loss record of 7-1 for Ruud.

Nishioka Stuns Tiafoe
Going in as a 1/2 favourite in his second round match, Frances Tiafoe looked like he had lived up to those odds against Yoshihito Nishioka when he clinched the first set in 37 minutes with one break of serve.
However, Nishioka is known to put up a challenge in the most difficult of situations and that is what he attempted to do from that point onward.
The two traded service breaks early in the second set but Nishioka broke Tiafoe as he served to stay in the set at 4-5.
By the time the decider began, the tables had completely turned and Tiafoe found it difficult to get past his opponent’s serve. And at 3-2, the Japanese player broke Tiafoe before continuing to hold on to his own to clinch the shock win.
With this win, Nishioka is on a four-match winning streak having both his Davis Cup matches – against Billy Harris and Jacob Fearnley – and then beaten Brandon Nakashima in Dallas.
Ruud v Nishioka Prediction
While Nishioka has put up a good showing, Ruud’s performances in these best-of-three tournaments is second to very players in the world as his 12 titles scream out. While 11 of those have come on clay, we think he has enough firepower to quell the Nishioka challenge here.
Ruud v Nishioka Tips
