Tommy Paul v Reilly Opelka Head to Head
They have never faced off at this level but did play in a Challenger match way back in 2018 which Opelka had won.
Paul in a Gruelling Win over Quinn
Tommy Paul had already beaten one American player in the first round of this competition but needed three sets to get past Jenson Brooksby.
In the second round, he took on another American, a close friend in the form of Ethan Quinn and for the second match in a row he was taken to a decider before edging out his opponent.
The world number nine was on court for two hours and 15 minutes as he overturned the loss of the second set to win it 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Paul looked like he was headed to a straight set win over his 199th-ranked opponent when he clinched the first set and broke him in the second set. However, serving for the match at 5-4, Paul lost his serve twice in a row, leaving him to all the heavy-lifting in the third.
A break of serve in the seventh game there was all that he needed and this time he finished off the job.
The task now gets harder as he faces his third American opponent in a row.

Opelka Scrapes Past Norrie
Cameron Norrie had a chance to get past the heavy-serving Reilly Opelka but the American came back from a set down to clinch a difficult win.
Opelka, who had entered the tournament as a wildcard, won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 loss in a match lasting over two and a half hours to reach the last eight stage.
In a rather cagey encounter which saw just two breaks of serves in all, it was the second set tie-breaker that proved to be the difference between the two sides.
On either side of that tie-breaker, the two players clinched a break each to win the set with Opelka winning the crucial final set to grab seventh victory of the season.
He had earlier come through in straight sets against Alexander Shevchenko but now faces his biggest test of the tournament.
Paul v Opelka Prediction
On paper, Paul might be a favourite at 1/2 but given Opelka’s form there’s very little to choose between the two. There is a very good chance of a three-setter here but the safer option seems to be the games market.
Paul v Opelka Tips
- Over 21.5 games in the match: 1/2
- Three sets in the match: 4/3
