Anastasia Potapova v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Brisbane International in which Sasnovich had won in straight sets.
Potapova Ends Ella’s Run
Anastasia Potapova has started the 2025 season on a rather positive note and she continued her winning run with a third straight-set victory in this tournament.
At the receiving end this time was Germany’s Ella Seidel who was sent packing in double-quick time.
In a match that lasted an hour and 24 minutes, Potapova clinched a 6-2, 6-3 win to enter the semifinals. She broke early, lost her serve in the fifth but from that point onward, Potapova was able to take full control of the encounter.
The world number 32 got the better of her opponent’s serve on two more occasions in the opening set before breaking Seidel in the second game of the second to seal the deal.
This win follows victories over Julia Grabher and Viktorija Golubic in the previous rounds which were also as straightforward as they could be for Potapova.

Sasnovich Shock for Kalinina
Going in as a 27/20 underdog and then losing the first set, that’s what Aliaksandra Sasnovich was up against when she faced the might of Anhelina Kalinina in the quarterfinals.
At that stage the writing looked to be on the wall and Kalinina seemed like she was on her way to sealing her spot in the last four.
Even more so when Sasnovich lost her serve in the first game of the second set and then again in the fifth game. Both times she broke right back but she knew she was still falling behind.
All of a sudden, however, Sasnovich found a way to get the better of her opponent’s serve at 4-5 and took the match to a decider.
Kalinina went 3-1 ahead again and then served for the match at 5-4 when Sasnovich broke back. She served again at 6-5 but for the fourth time in the set, Sasnovich wasn’t having any of it and got back into the match with a break, pushing it into a tie-breaker.
And then she raced off to a 7-3 win, following on from her victories over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Marina Stakusic in the previous matches. Can she now make it to her sixth WTA final having last done that in Budapest last year?
