In-Form Bencic Rolls On with Rybakina Win
The start of Belinda Bencic’s season has been a roaring success and it was no different when she took to the court for her semifinal against Elena Rybakina.
Bencic, who had double-bagelled Veronika Kudermetova and then eased past Marketa Vondrousova in her previous rounds, came back from behind to pull off an upset win.
After losing the first set to one break of serve, Bencic came back strongly with a break of her own off Rybakina’s very first service game in the second set. Rybakina missed two break-point chances before Bencic levelled things off.
There were three successive breaks of serve in the first three games of the decider before Bencic held on and then broke again to go 5-2 up.
From there on, Rybakina tried to put up some fight but Bencic proved to be too good.
That made it 11-3 for the season for Bencic who will now be gunning for her first title at this level since…wait for it, her tournament win here in 2023!

Krueger Ends Noskova’s Run
Having won all her previous rounds in straight sets and defeated Paula Badosa and Magda Linette on her way, Linda Noskova had come into her semifinal against Ashlyn Krueger as a favourite.
Krueger, on the other hand, had also some excellent scalps on her way to getting to the final four stage whereby she had defeated Daria Kasatkina and Leylah Fernandez.
The only difference had been the manner of her wins – she had needed three sets in each of her previous three rounds in this competition and four successive matches overall to get here.
In this one, Krueger tried to get going quickly and while she lost her serve early in the first set, she came back to level things out at 4-4. A tie-breaker followed in which Krueger cruised to a 7-2 win.
The second set proved to be an even better showing from the American as she broke Noskova twice to go 4-1 up. And while she failed to serve it out the first time at 5-2, she completed the win the next time she had a chance.
She now faces an in-form opponent who could prove to be a major hindrance in allowing Krueger to win her second WTA title. Krueger’s first had come in Osaka in 2023.
