Yunchaokete Bu v Rinky Hijikata Preview
Head-to-Head: Bu and Hijikata have never played each other before this.
In a battle between the world number 69 Yunchaokete Bu and the 72nd-ranked Rinky Hijikata, it’s interesting to note that the bookmakers have a clear favourite. Bu starts off 4/6 to win this and that’s despite the fact that he’s 2-5 on win-loss for the season.
Bu’s season has consisted of five tournaments and in four of them he has lost in the first round. What’s made it worse is that not all those losses have come to players of a different pedigree; Nuno Borges, Jan-Lennard Struff, Hady Habib and Jaume Munar have all defeated him.
Hijikata, on the other hand, fell in the first round in Brisbane and then again at the Australian Open but one of those losses came to Novak Djokovic.
He also made the quarterfinals at the Adelaide International with wins over Brandon Nakashima and David Goffin while also entering the second round in Dallas last week.
We think that at 6/5, Hijikata looks to be a tempting option for a win.
Bu v Hijikata prediction: Hijikata to win: 11/10
Arthur Rinderknech v Gabriel Diallo Preview
Head-to-Head: Rinderknech and Diallo have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
What can Arthur Rinderknech do to turn things around in the season? That’s one question that the Frenchman would be asking himself because he has had a wretched start to 2025.
In the five tournaments that Rinderknech has played this year, he has won just one match – which came against Harold Mayot – and in four of the tournaments, he has been knocked out in round one.
One of the worst ones came at the hands of Nikoloz Basilashvili despite Rinderknech starting out a 4/6 favourite there. And he now faces the 86th-ranked Gabriel Diallo, who might be 20 spots behind him in the rankings but starts a 1/2 favourite.
The reason for that has been his performance this season which has shown that Diallo can put up a fight.
He made the second round in Hong Kong while going through the qualifiers and then did the same at the Australian Open as well, defeating Luca Nardi in the opener.
One of his best wins of the season has come against the in-form Fabian Marozsan at the Davis Cup and we will have to go with him here as a result of this top form.
Rinderknech v Diallo prediction: Diallo to win: 1/2
Yoshihito Nishioka v Aleksandar Vukic Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been two matches been these two players in the main draw of ATP events and Vukic has won them both – at the 2023 Atlanta Open and 2024 Eastbourne International. Two other matches, in the qualifiers in Eastbourne 2023 and a Challenger tournament in 2018 went in favour of Nishioka.
A rather confident Yoshihito Nishioka will start a favourite here after having reached the quarterfinal in Dallas last week.
The Japanese player overcame Brandon Nakashima in the opener there and then registered his best win of this season by shocking Frances Tiafoe in the second. It took Casper Ruud to knock him out of reckoning.
Earlier, Nishioka had also reached the second round in Brisbane and then won a round at the Australian Open before falling to Carlos Alcaraz.
It’s not as if Vukic hasn’t had a decent one so far, with a third round appearance at the season’s first major being his highlight. There he had gotten the better of Sebastian Korda.
We think there’s not much between these two and a rather close, three-setter could be in the offing.
Nishioka v Vukic prediction: Three sets in the match: 6/5
