Ugo Humbert v Alexander Bublik Preview
Head-to-Head: There has been one previous meeting between them and Humbert had defeated Bublik in that match in Dubai in 2024.
Ugo Humbert is coming off a solid performance in the Davis Cup in which he had a potentially difficult match against Joao Fonseca.
Fonseca had beaten Andrey Rublev earlier in the Australian Open but from Humbert’s point of view, he was entering that encounter on the back of a solid showing at the season’s opening Grand Slam.
The Frenchman had made it to the fourth round there before going down in fourth round to the eventual finalist Alexander Zverev and he brought the same form to the Fonseca match. He came through 7-5, 6-3.
With an opening round bye here, Humbert now faces the highly erratic Alexander Bublik who registered only his second win of the season. Bublik defeated Richard Gasquet in his opener, winning 6-4, 6-4.
That follows a 6-4, 6-4 defeat at the same stage of the tournament in Rotterdam to Jakub Mensik and a straight-set loss to Alexander Kovacevic in Montpellier before that.
Bublik’s only previous win this season had come against Dominik Koepfer, underlining his form issues.
Humbert v Bublik prediction: Humbert to win in straight sets: 5/6

Daniel Altmaier v Otto Virtanen Preview
Head-to-Head: Altmaier and Virtanen have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Daniel Altmaier was once ranked 47th in the world and while he had fallen off the rankings for a bit, it seems like he has been doing his best to try and get himself going again.
This has been on display in snatches this season with Altmaier having made the second round at the Australian Open, and qualified as a lucky loser in Rotterdam to enter the quarterfinal with a shock win over Arthur Fils.
In the first round here, Altmaier eased to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Luca Nardi despite being a marginal underdog at 1/1 entering that match.
He will be up against the 98th-ranked Otto Virtanen who registered his first win of the year. And what a scalp it was too, defeating Sebastian Korda in a ripper of a three-setter.
In a match lasting two hours and 35 minutes, the two players traded four breaks of serves across the first two sets before winning one apiece in a tie-breaker. The third set started with a break for Virtannen who went 2-0 up and then managed to hold on to his serve every single time to clinch a surprise win.
Altmaier v Virtanen prediction: Altmaier to win: 4/6
