Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Mackenzie McDonald Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been two previous meetings between these two and Fokina has won both times, at the 2021 Stockholm Open and 2023 Canadian Open.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina had a relatively easy first round win over Taro Daniel whom he defeated 6-2, 7-6 (2) to reach the second round.
The Spaniard, who was once edging towards getting to the top 20 in the ATP Rankings, has had a decent start to the season thanks to his performance at the Australian Open.
He had sent Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jakub Mensik packing in the season’s first major on his way to the fourth round. And while Fokina crashed out of the Dallas Open last week in just the second round, he has maintained his ranking – having started the season ranked 61st, he is now 60th.
Fokina takes on Mackenzie McDonald who shocked Kei Nishikori in a tight opening match.
At 6/4 odds to overcome Nishikori, McDonald was on court for over two and a half hours for his 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5 victory which saw the American break his opponent in the final game of the match to clinch it.
Interestingly this was McDonald’s first main draw win of the season. Can he now make it two in two?
Davidovich Fokina v McDonald prediction: Fokina to win: 1/2

Matteo Arnaldi v Learner Tien Preview
Head-to-Head: Arnaldi and Tien will be facing off the first time in their careers.
Following a poor start to the season in Australia where Matteo Arnaldi won just one match over two tournaments, he looked to have rediscovered his mojo at the Dallas Open last week.
Wins over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Christopher Eubanks helped him make the quarterfinals there before he went down to Jaume Munar in a hard-fought match.
He enters this tournament with a first round bye, which means Arnaldi needs just one win here to make this his best showing at this tournament.
And trying to stop Arnaldi will be Learner Tien, an 82nd-ranked teenager who had earlier shot to fame with a win over Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open.
Tien, who had gone on to enter the fourth round there, returned to feature in this tournament following a near-four week break and did well immediately. He defeated Adam Walton in the first round to set this meeting up.
Nothing separates these two players according to the bookmakers – but given how Tien has gone about his business, his maturity and tenacity could help him through here.
Arnaldi v Tien prediction: Tien to win: 17/20
