Alexander Zverev v Francisco Cerundolo Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in Madrid last year and Cerundolo had stunned Zverev in straight sets of that pre-quarterfinal round.
Zverev Easy Winner over Lajovic
It was Alexander Zverev’s first match since that Australian Open final last month and he did not look too perturbed with the change in surface.
Following a first round bye, Zverev clinched a straight-set win over Dusan Lajovic in the second to make it to the quarterfinals in his maiden appearance at this tournament.
In a match lasting an hour and 35 minutes, Zverev shrugged off an early break of serve against him in the second set to win it 6-4, 6-4.
With this victory, Zverev took his season’s record to 9-1 for the season. The act of playing the local boy and one has beaten him before will bring its own challenges and that could inspire Zverev to bring out his A game for this.

Cerundolo Overcomes Brother
Francisco Cerundolo had dropped seven games in the first round of this tournament against Luciano Darderi. Things turned out to be even easier against his brother Juan Manuel Cerundolo as he raced to a second round victory against him.
In what turned out to be an encounter that lasted an hour and 17 minutes, Francisco overcame Juan Manuel 6-2, 6-3 to set up a rematch from the Madrid Open last season.
Francisco saved all the four break-points he faced in the match while getting the better of his brother’s serve on three occasions in the match.
This followed a 2-2 record before the start of this tournament this season for the Argentine. Can he put up any kind of a fight against Zverev?
Zverev v Cerundolo Prediction
Zverev won’t be too chuffed about his win-loss record against Cerundolo and another loss here would take it to 0-2 against him. We think Zverev wouldn’t want that to happen and he will get to the court all cylinders firing. Straight-set win expected.
Zverev v Cerundolo Tips
- Zverev to win in straight sets: 5/6
