Humbert v Sonego Head to Head
This is an interesting rivalry with six previous meetings resulting in three wins apiece for both players.
Sonego has won all his matches against Humbert on clay while the Frenchman has won both their matches played in an outdoor competition – at the 2021 Canadian Open and 2023 China Open.
Last year they faced off twice and it was 1-1 on head to head.
Humbert Thwarts Fighting Bublik
Alexander Bublik’s form has been all over the place and there was no surprise that the defending champion Ugo Humbert was a huge favourite starting out against him in their second round.
Having earned a first round bye, Humbert was forced to be on court for a little over an hour and 30 minutes, and while he was stretched in the first set, the defending champions sealed his quarterfinal berth in straight sets.
Humbert won 7-6 (7), 6-4 after the two players traded a service break apiece in the first set and it needed the Frenchman just one break of serve late in the second to clinch the win.
This victory comes on the back of win at the Davis Cup over Joao Fonseca and a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open last month.

Sonego Gets a Walkover from Van Assche
Luca Van Assche had withdrawn from his Australian Open qualifiers earlier this season and it looked like his fitness was a concern again as he opted to give Lorenzo Sonego a walkover into the quarterfinal.
Sonego, who had earlier been involved in a keen, three-set tussle with Botic van de Zandschulp, would welcome this turn of events as it allows him a suitable gap between matches coming into the quarterfinals.
Earlier in the season, Sonego had surprised a whole host of fans with his showing at the Australian Open where he shocked Joao Fonseca on his way to the quarterfinals.
It had taken the might of Ben Shelton to end his stay in the tournament but not before Sonego had taken him to a tie-breaker in the fourth set.
Can Sonego exhibit something similar when he takes to court against the defending champion?
Humbert v Sonego Prediction
Humbert is 2/5 to win this but we believe things could get a lot closer than that and Sonego will go toe to toe with his opponent here. Backing a three-set tussle in this one that Humbert manages to scrape through.
Humbert v Sonego Tips
- Humbert to win in three set: 7/2
