Daniil Medvedev v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
There have been seven previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev leads 6-1 on head to head.
Only two of these matches came in hardcourt competitions and Medvedev won them both (including at Marseille in 2017) while also winning three on grass including the 2021 and 2024 Wimbledon and 2021 Halle.
Medvedev Crushes Herbert
With all the talk around Daniil Medvedev’s form, it was natural for him to get to court and dispatch an opponent in double-quick time and make the next round. He did that by sending the local lad Pierre-Hugues Herbert packing, entering the quarterfinals in the process.
Following a first round, Medvedev was on court for a mere 70 minutes as he ousted Herbert 6-2, 6-4, registering just his third win of the season.
Medvedev faced just one break-point in the match and saved it while breaking his opponent three times in all.
This follows second round exits at both, the Australian Open and Rotterdam Open where he lost to Learner Tien and Mattia Bellucci respectively.
Having had the better of his next opponent on so many occasions, Medvedev could have a better outing this time than he did in the second rounds of tournaments he’s played before this in 2025.

Struff Stretched But Makes it against Grenier
Jan-Lennard Struff’s season has itself been anything extraordinary. Much like Medvedev, he was coming into this competition on the back of not having won successive matches in any of the competitions he had played in this year.
In fact in two of the three tournaments Struff participated in, Struff had exited in the opening round itself.
Which is why wins over Manuel Guinard and Hugo Grenier here should make Struff breather a lot easier now that he has won back to back rounds here.
Struff was on court for a while for his first round encounter too and a couple of days later, he needed two hours and 16 minutes to take down Grenier.
Despite serving 16 aces and winning 75% of his first serve points, Struff was broken four times in the contest and it wasn’t till the seventh game of the final set that he finally edged ahead.
Things might get a whole lot tougher now.
Medvedev v Struff Prediction
Medvedev might not be in the best of touches recently which could give Struff a chance to narrow the head to head gap between them. And yet, Medvedev looked a lot better in round one than he has all season. Backing a straight-set win for Medvedev.
