Matteo Arnaldi v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
They have never played each other at this level but took on each other at the 2022 ATP Next Gen Finals in which Nakashima had won.
Arnaldi Edges Tien Out
It took Matteo Arnaldi two hours and 52 minutes to win his first match at the 2025 Delray Beach Open after he was run close by Learner Tien in the second round encounter.
Following a first round bye, Arnaldi was an 8/11 favourite going into this encounter against Tien but from the very beginning it did not look like he was in any sort of control.
He broke Tien twice in a row, sure, but from serving for a 5-1 lead in the first to being forced into a tie-breaker – that he won – and losing the second set, it looked like there wasn’t much to choose between the two.
The decider began with Arnaldi losing his serve in the third game but Tien failed to serve it out in the 10th. Arnaldi then missed a match-point in the 12th before clinching the tie-breaker 7-1.
This follows a quarterfinal appearance at the Dallas Open too for Arnaldi where he had overcome Christopher Eubanks and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to get there.

Nakashima Stuns Opelka
Brandon Nakashima’s record for the season before coming into this season read a paltry one win from five matches.
A straight-set win over James Trotter was probably par for the course but when he lost the first set to the big-serving Reilly Opelka in their second round encounter, Nakashima looked like it was the end of the journey for him.
Except it was not.
In the second set, Nakashima did well not to lose his serve and even more vitally lost just four points off it. And while Opelka also kept holding on to his, it looked slightly less stable than Nakashima’s.
Nakashima finally got his opportunity at 6-5 on Opelka’s serve and off his very first break-point broke his opponent to win the set.
The third set saw Opelka unravel spectacularly as he got broken twice – in the fourth and the eighth game – allowing Nakashima to progress.
Arnaldi v Nakashima Prediction
While Nakashima has pulled off an upset win, Arnaldi will be no pushover and we could see a tough battle that either goes the distance or sees two very closely-fought sets.
