Marketa Vondrousova v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2018 Australian Open and Garcia had won that in three sets to advance to the third round.
Vondrousova Needs Deeper Runs
She is a former Wimbledon champion and was once ranked sixth in the world. Over the last couple of seasons Vondrousova has struggled to get going because of her fitness issues and that has pulled her ranking down to 34th on the WTA charts.
In fact last year, Vondrousova participated in a mere 11 tournaments, calling it quits for the season after her first round loss at Wimbledon.
Vondrousova has come back this season and taken part in three tournaments but having retired from a match and missed out on the Australian Open – again due to an injury.
She came back in Doha last week and went on to win the first set of her opener against Elina Svitolina by a 6-0 margin. The next two, Vondrousova lost to be sent packing from the tournament.

Garcia Struggles Continue
The new season had brought new hope for Caroline Garcia who had earlier decided to do it her way and enjoy the game but things haven’t changed too much. Not as far as the results are concerned for sure.
Garcia has featured in three tournaments so far this season, starting out at the Australian Open and going on to feature in both the Middle East competitions but has won just one match.
At the Australian Open she was knocked out by Naomi Osaka in three fighting sets but things came to head when it was the turn of Lulu Sun to coast to a 6-3, 6-3 win at the Abu Dhabi Open.
And then in Doha, Garcia finally won a round when she defeated Yue Yuan but her campaign was ended in the second round at the hands of Jasmine Paolini.
So while Vondrousova might not be in the greatest of form herself, it will need Garcia to change her approach if she wants to start winning against some of these top players.
