Liudmilla Samsonova v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2023 French Open and Pavlyuchenkova had won it in three hard-fought sets. They were to face off a second time in this very tournament in 2024 but Pavlyuchenkova had pulled out of that second round match.
Samsonova Needs a Big Result
And by a big result, one isn’t looking at this match alone.
Liudmilla Samsonova hasn’t quite gotten going in an entire tournament other than her showing at the Adelaide International where she won three in a row to make the semifinals.
Wins over Marie Bouzkova, Belinda Bencic and Emma Navarro in that competition should have been the start of something special.
It didn’t, with Samsonova losing in the second round at the Australian Open to Olga Danilovic, falling to Veronika Kudermetova at the Abu Dhabi Open and more recently to Jelena Ostapenko in the second round in Doha.
A strong run is what the Russian needs.

Pavlyuchenkova Comes in as Australian Open Quarterfinalist
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova didn’t quite have the kind of warm-up she wanted before the Australian Open, losing in the first round in Adelaide to Marketa Vondrousova.
That didn’t, however, didn’t mean too much for the Russian, who went on to win four matches in a row at the season’s first major to make the quarterfinals. It took the two-time defending champion and the eventual finalist Aryna Sabalenka to take her down in three sets.
Taking to court at Abu Dhabi after that, Pavlyuchenkova did coast to a win in her opener but against Magda Linette, she was forced to retire from the match because of illness.
Pavlyuchenkova did not feature in Doha after that and now returns in Dubai.
Samsonova v Pavlyuchenkova Prediction
This could turn out to be an interesting one and while Pavlyuchenkova starts out a favourite we think this is anyone’s match with a third set likely.
