Clara Tauson v Rebecca Sramkova Head to Head
All their previous three meetings have come in the qualifiers of WTA events with Tauson leading 2-1 having won at the 2019 Lugano and 2023 Wimbledon. Sramkova had defeated her opponent in Madrid last year.
Tauson Hoping to be Back to Full Fitness
Things had been going very nicely for Clara Tauson and at one point she had won seven matches in a row. This included a title at the Hobart International before making the third round at the Australian Open.
While she lost that one to Aryna Sabalenka, the eventual finalist at the season’s first major, Tauson came back well in Linz to make the semifinal.
She had gone into that last four stage encounter against Dayana Yastremska as an 11/20 favourite but fell to an easy – and surprising – loss to her opponent.
And in Doha last week, drawn to play the in-form Elise Mertens, Tauson might not have been the favourite but she would have liked to do better than she did.
The Dane looked ill during that opener against Mertens, losing the first set 6-0 before retiring from the match. She has had about a week to recover from whatever it was that was bothering her and she would be hoping to enter this match fully fit.

Sramkova Finally Wins Two in Two
Having won her maiden WTA title last year at Hua Hin, Rebecca Sramkova hasn’t quite been able to reproduce that same form in the early days of this new season yet.
The Slovakian has still managed to keep her ranking close to her career-best of 43rd, and thanks to a little bit of a turnaround in fortunes in Doha, Sramkova might even get past that when the rankings are updated on Monday.
Having lost in the first round at three of the five tournaments she has played this season and in the second round of the other two, Sramkova finally managed to grab successive victories in Doha last week.
What more, she defeated two tough opponents – Anhelina Kalinina in the first before an upset win over Mirra Andreeva took her to the third round. There she fell to Elena Rybakina.
Can she now get going here with a victory against a player whose momentum got stalled last week.

This could turn out to be an interesting battle with Tauson starting a 6/11 favourite. If Tauson is fully fit we can see her come through but Sramkova’s strategy might be to keep Tauson on court for long and that’s exactly what we are going for here.
