While that defeat to Anisimova would be a bitter pill to swallow, especially given that she was sent packing in straight sets, Alexandrova now has a chance to further her performances to Dubai.

Kudermetova Comes Through the Qualifiers Again
This is her third tournament in a row in the Middle East swing, having featured in Abu Dhabi and Doha before this and in all three of them Veronika Kudermetova has been forced to come through the qualifiers.
Kudermetova had lost to Sofia Kenin in the second qualifying round in Abu Dhabi but made it through as a lucky loser before surprising Liudmilla Samsonova in the first round.
She had to beat Sara Errani and Erika Andreeva in Doha to enter the main draw but lost to Magda Linette in her opener there.
And here, Kudermetova won successive matches in straight sets, against Chloe Paquet and Celine Simunyu to seal her opening round encounter against her in-form, fellow Russian. Can she pull off an upset here?
