Daniil Medvedev v Karen Khachanov Head to Head
There have been six previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev leads 4-2 having won their last four meetings in hardcourt competitions.
These include the 2019 Montreal Masters and the 2023 editions of the Adelaide, Miami and Vienna Open.
2023 Winner Medvedev Need Another Good Run
After the kind of start that Daniil Medvedev has had to the season, he might not be coming into match against his countryman with a lot of confidence.
Losses to Learner Tien at the Australian Open and Mattia Bellucci at Rotterdam were bad enough but Medvedev looked to have got himself into some rhythm when he won successive rounds in Marseille last week.
In the semifinal, he went down at the hands of Hamad Medjedovic though, which would have pegged him back again. Especially given the nature of his loss, going down 6-3, 6-2 in double quick time.
Medvedev starts things off here knowing that the last title he won was in mid-2023 – more than a year and half ago. He has continued to hover in the top five (currently sixth) but very soon he will need to start getting better results if he wants to remain in that contention.

Khachanov 2-3 for the Season
Much like Medvedev, even Karen Khachanov hasn’t had the best of times in 2025.
He started with a loss at the hands of Kei Nishikori at the Hong Kong Open and while he then made the third round at the Australian Open, Khachanov lost back to back matches.
The first came to Alex Michelsen in Melbourne but rather interestingly he also lost to Medjedovic in Marseille last week. That loss came in the second round and in a not so dissimilar fashion to the one that Medvedev suffered at his hands.
A fully in-form Khachanov could have given Medvedev a run for his money in this one but we are looking at the world number 21 being in an equal strife here.

It’s a battle between two struggling Russians and by what we saw in Marseille, Medvedev should be able manage a win here but could need three sets to get past Khachanov.
