Novak Djokovic v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two and Novak Djokovic has won every single match, including the 2019 ATP Finals and the 2021 editions of French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
Djokovic Returns from Injury
Novak Djokovic will look to make a spirited comeback to the tennis courts after having retired from his Australian Open semifinal due to a hamstring injury.
Playing Alexander Zverev in that match, Djokovic was down a set when he opted to withdraw from the contest and was later booed by the Rod Laver Arena crowd.
What’s interesting to note is that the kind of injury he suffered, Djokovic has done well yet again to get back in this amount of time – he’s taken just three weeks or so to recover from his troubles.
Djokovic will take to court for his doubles match on Monday which should give a better idea about how he’s feeling and whether he can add to his two titles that he’s won in this tournament earlier.

Berrettini Hasn’t Had a Great Start to 2025
Matteo Berrettini has had his own set of issues with fitness in the past but came back rather well in 2024. Having begun the 2024 season ranked 92nd on the ATP charts, Berrettini won three titles at this level and ended the year knocking on the doors of a top 30 rank again.
Unfortunately for Berrettini, the start to 2025 has been anything but as good as the previous year.
He fell in three sets to Jordan Thompson in his Brisbane opener, lost to Holger Rune in the second round of the Australian Open while losing to Tallon Griekspoor at the Rotterdam Open.
And now, he takes on a player like Novak Djokovic first up which could make things so much more difficult for Berrettini having never beaten his champion opponent in his career.
Djokovic v Berrettini Prediction
The only way Berrettini can win this or even come close to doing that is if he goes in the with the mindset that this is probably his best chance to beat Djokovic in his career given what has transpired in the recent past. The other mindset, blaming a poor draw for his losses, might not help. Backing Djokovic to still win but we could see a third set.
Djokovic v Berrettini Tips
- Berrettini to win a set – Yes: 5/4
