Mirra Andreeva v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came last year in Madrid and Andreeva had won that in straight sets.
Andreeva Makes Short Work of Avanesyan
Mirra Andreeva might have been knocked out of the WTA Qatar last week in the second round itself by Rebecca Sramkova but she was having none of that here.
In a match that went on for a mere 62 minutes, Andreeva overcame Elina Avanesyan 6-2, 6-1 to enter the second round.
Andreeva celebrated getting to her career-best ranking of 14th in the world with a fine performance in the first set where she broke Avanesyan twice to take the lead. She faced and saved two break-points.
The second set started with the two players trading breaks but from that point onward, Andreeva rolled off with five successive games and grabbed a place in the second round.
She has a tougher task now but will be confident enough to take down the former Wimbledon champion.

Vondrousova Has No Problems with Garcia
Caroline Garcia has been so out of sorts that it’s no surprise she has barely won anything in a while. And Marketa Vondrousova became the latest player to ease past her French opponent.
The Czech needed an hour and three minutes to clinch a 6-2, 6-2 win over Garcia and improve to 4-3 for the season.
While the first set went Vondrousova’s way without a worry, Garcia put up a show in the second set to hold her opponent back a tad. They shared four breaks in a row before Vondrousova got her act together and won four successive games and in turn, the match.
This win follows a first round exit at the Qatar Open last week for Vondrousova where she was beaten by Elina Svitolina. Can she hold off her teenaged opponent in this one?
Andreeva v Vondrousova Prediction
Andreeva could have a fight on her hand but we will have to back her to overcome the Vondrousova challenge in this one. Might even see three sets in this.
Andreeva v Vondrousova Tips
- Andreeva to win: 8/11
