Cirstea Shocks Parks
The last time Sorana Cirstea won successive matches in a WTA tournament was in Rome last year, that’s nine months ago.
Which is why, when she came into her second round match against Alycia Parks here, Cirstea wasn’t quite a favourite despite being up against someone ranked 74th in the world.
And Parks showed why she held the edge when she romped through the first set by breaking Cirstea late in the set.
Just when it seemed like it was all over for the Romanian, she came back strongly though. Cirstea edged past Parks in the second with a late break and then went on a serve-breaking rampage in the decider to carve out a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win.
This followed a shock victory over Daria Kasatkina in the first round for Cirstea.

Navarro in Stunning Win over Bencic
Despite being ranked ninth in the world, Emma Navarro was a distant second going into her second round encounter against Belinda Bencic.
Now it’s no surprise that Bencic was the favourite given the kind of form that she has displayed in all of 2025 but at 21/10, Navarro looked rather long.
And that is exactly what she showed in the contest as the American clinched a place in the third round with a hard-fought three-set win over Bencic.
Navarro won 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3 in a match that went on for over two and a half hours. This was after Navarro had fallen in her opener in Doha last week to Leylah Fernandez and had a first round bye here.

Navarro was on court for a long time and now has a second match she will have to play immediately after that, which could make it slightly tougher for her than for her opponent who was off the court quickly.
