Alex de Minaur v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players, at the 2022 Davis Cup and the 2025 Australian Open. Both times, de Minaur has won.
de Minaur Tames Safiullin with Ease
Alex de Minaur hasn’t quite got the attention that some of the other top players have this season but he has quietly gone about his business of winning matches.
The latest of them came in the first round in Doha where he cruised to a straight-set win over Roman Safiullin and sealed his place next to Botic van de Zandschulp.
In a match that lasted only an hour and 39 minutes, de Minaur won 6-1, 7-5 with Safiullin causing a minor trouble to the Aussie’s serve in the second set.
That came after de Minaur had grabbed the first set with two breaks of serves and was about to serve for the match at 5-4. Safiullin broke him in the 10th game only to get broken in the very next game leaving de Minaur o serve it out.
Another quarterfinal awaits de Minaur.

van de Zandschulp Quells the Shelbayh Challenge
Talk about chalk and cheese and that’s what the current records of de Minaur and Botic van de Zandschulp would show. On the one side is a player who has won 12 of his 14 matches with the only defeats coming at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
And then there is Botic van de Zandschulp who has finally won a main draw after six attempts.
That’s right, he has won a first round match after losing them in five previous tournaments starting in the first week of January. And it took the opponent to be a 267th-ranked player in Abdullah Shelbayh for van de Zandschulp to finally win.
He grabbed a 7-5, 6-3 victory and will now need to pull off something special when he takes on a player of the calibre and form of his second round opponent.
