Carlos Alcaraz v Luca Nardi Head to Head
Alcaraz and Nardi have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Alcaraz Begins with a Win over Cilic
Marin Cilic hadn’t featured in the season so far because of a lingering fitness and when he finally returned to the court, he was drawn to face Carlos Alcaraz.
And while Cilic gave a decent account of his own self, Alcaraz found a way to go past him in straight sets.
Alcaraz was forced to remain on court for an hour and 49 minutes before winning 6-4, 6-4 to clinch his sixth win in a row following a quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open.
The two traded breaks of serves in the very first two games of the match before Alcaraz earned a decisive break in the seventh game to go on to win the set.
In the second, Alcaraz saved three break-points at 3-4 down and then broke Cilic in the ninth game to earn his second round spot.

Qualifier Nardi Surprises Zhang
Following a second round appearance at the Auckland Open and a first round exit at the Australian Open, Luca Nardi opted to play in a Challenger competition in Koblenz and surprise, surprise, went on to make the final there early this month.
Since then he had lost in the first round of successive tournaments before needing to feature in the qualifiers of this one at Doha.
Nardi had beaten Yasutaka Uchiyama and Mikhail Kukushkin to make the main draw and while starting an 11/10 underdog against Zhizhen Zhang, he overcame him 6-4, 6-3 to make the second round.
This was his third successive straight-set win and it took him an hour and 17 minutes to get there with Nardi breaking his opponent three times.
Can he now make life difficult for the world number three?
Alcaraz v Nardi Prediction
This shouldn’t cause that much issue for Alcaraz and a straight-set win looks the most likely result but it might not be the most prudent of punts given the associated odds. Games market makes more sense.
