Jaume Munar v Jaime Faria Head to Head
Munar and Faria have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Munar Tames Seyboth Wild in Opener
It was never going to be easy against Thiago Seyboth Wild, who on his day, can get past the toughest of opponents on clay but Jaume Munar looked to be prepared for that eventuality.
And in a match that lasted an hour and 57 minutes and looked like it could the distance before Munar brought things under control, he won 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to reach the second round.
Munar, who hadn’t played on clay before this for the season but come into this tournament on the back of a semifinal appearance at the Hong Kong Open and Dallas Open, took some time to settle down as he went 0-2 down in the opening set.
He broke right back and then did that again to take a 4-2 lead before wrapping up the set. Seyboth Wild responded with an early break of serve in the second set but once Munar had found his rhythm in the decider there proved to be no looking back.

Faria Untroubled by Barrios Vera
Marcelo Barrios Vera had come into his first round match against Jaime Faria as 3/5 favourite but the Portuguese lucky loser coasted away to a straight-set win.
Faria, who had lost to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second qualifying round, went on to defeat Barrios Vera 6-2, 7-5 to scoop up his first main draw win on clay for the season. He had earlier made the second round at the Australian Open starting out as a qualifier.
This comes on the back of a superb season that Faria had in 2024.
Having begun the year ranked 411th in the world, Faria won four Futures competitions and then a further couple of Challengers to end the year at 123rd.
And he entered this tournament ranked 107th and with this opening round win here, will break into the top 100 for the first time in his career when the rankings are updated next Monday.
Can he pull off a surprise here?
