Elena Rybakina v Sofia Kenin Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between them and Rybakina has beaten Kenin both times. Both came in 2023, once in this very tournament and the second in Indian Wells.
Rybakina in a Three-Set Thriller with Badosa
Playing Paula Badosa in the third round, Elena Rybakina proved she is not just a one-time Wimbledon winner but also an escape artist.
Because after losing the first set and being a break down, Rybakina managed to take the second set into a tie-breaker only to face four match-points in it.
Rybakina saved them all and won the set off her fourth set-point before saving two more match-points late in the third set. That pushed the third set into a tie-breaker as well which Rybakina did not have too many worries clinching, with the final score reading 4-6, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (2) in two hours and 51 minutes.
The Kazakh will cherish this victory having endured fitness issues and other personal problems and while she has done enough to win the first few rounds of competitions in 2025, her best showing has been only a fourth round at the Australian Open.
This win could change all that.

Kenin Sends Defending Champion Out
Jasmine Paolini was defending 1000 points at this year’s WTA Dubai thanks to her title victory at this competition last season but she was unable to get going again.
And taking her out this time was the former Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin sent Paolini packing 6-4, 6-0 to make the quarterfinals.
Kenin, who had surprised Donna Vekic in the first round before registering a shocking comeback from behind win over Marta Kostyuk, needed a mere 63 minutes to complete her victory as Paolini was left scratching her head for ideas.
Such was Kenin’s dominance, she did not face a single break-point in the entire match while she got the better of her opponent on four occasions. In all, the American dropped a mere eight points on her own serve.
Can she make it to her first semifinals in a WTA 1000 (or beyond) event since having done that in Guadalajara 2023?
Rybakina v Kenin Prediction
Rybakina will start off a favourite and if can recover quickly from that rather lengthy encounter we can back her to win this in two.
Rybakina v Kenin Tips
- Rybakina to win in straight sets: 7/5
Kenin can beat anyone if her head stays in the game. Hoping she will take this match. It’s not uncommon for her to win against top players.
