Jack Draper v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head
Draper has played and beaten Berrettini just once before.
This came in the final of the Stuttgart Open last year, helping Draper win his maiden title at the highest level. He went on to grab the Vienna Open title later in 2024.
Draper Sends O’Connell Packing
For the second match in a row, and fourth time in five matches, Jack Draper was up against an Australian opponent. And for as many times as he has done that, Draper managed to get past them.
This time around it was Christopher O’Connell who was at the receiving end of Draper’s solidity.
Draper was on court for a mere 59 minutes for his second round in Doha, defeating O’Connell 6-2, 6-1.
Such was Draper’s dominance in the match, he lost just five points on his own serve, facing no break-points in the encounter. In turn he got the better of O’Connell’s serve on five occasions to leave his opponent with no answer to his questions.
In the first round, Draper had defeated Alexei Popyrin 6-2, 7-6 (4) having come into the tournament on the back of a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open.

Berrettini in a Gritty Win over Griekspoor
Needing to back up his performance against Novak Djokovic in the previous round, Matteo Berrettini stood like a rock with his serve against an equally solid Tallon Griekspoor.
He did not lose his serve even once in his 7-6 (4), 6-7 (6), 6-4 victory in Doha to advance to the quarterfinal and set up this meeting with the Briton.
Berrettini would later go on to admit he knew the result of the previous day, a shock win over Djokovic, would have no bearing on this encounter because not only are the players quite different, it also feels differently on different days on court.
And while he did not find the rhythm to be as good as it was on the previous day, Berrettini found a way to wiggle out of sticky situations. Like when he lost the second set to a few mistakes in the tie-breaker.
It would be interesting to see if he can continue serving as well as he has in the tournament so far having made it successive wins for the first time this season.
Draper v Berrettini Prediction
There’s not much to choose between these two, both of whom are playing some highly entertaining and good quality tennis. The big question is if the intensity of the tennis over the past few days has had a bearing on it and that could mean we might not get a really close encounter if even one of the players is unable to back up on what they had delivered previously.
