Alexander Zverev v Francisco Comesana Head to Head
Zverev and Comesana will be facing off for the first time in their careers.
Zverev Survives Shevchenko
It took Alexander Zverev nearly two and a half hours on court to win his second round match against Alexander Shevchenko. And it could have gone a lot longer had Zverev not found a way to clinch the second set after being two set-points down.
Zverev won 7-6 (1), 7-6 (6) despite a gritty showing from Shevchenko who refused to go out in a hurry.
Having taken a 2-0 lead early in the opening set, Zverev lost his serve twice after that leaving Shevchenko to serve out the set at 5-3. He dropped serve that game, allowing Zverev to take it to the tie-breaker in which he coasted to a win.
If he thought, however, that things would get easier after that, Zverev was widely off the mark. If anything he faced an even bigger challenge as Shevchenko came back from 1-4 down to level things out.
And in the second tie-breaker that followed, Shevchenko got to a 6-4 lead. Zverev was forced to save those two set-points before winning it 8-6 and advancing to the quarters.

Comesana Stuns Jarry
Francisco Comesana had taken more than three hours to get past his first round opponent Gustavo Heide in Rio. Another three plus hours later, he edged out Nicolas Jarry in the second round to make the quarterfinals.
Over the six sets that Comsesana has played in this tournament so far, he has been involved in five tie-breakers including three against Jarry. And it would be interesting to see how he comes back when he takes to court against Zverev.
Both players lost their serve twice in the encounter with all of those breaks coming in a six-game period of the second set. They went back to holding serve after that and Jarry clinched the second tie-breaker to take it to the decider.
There, Comesana missed two match-points off Jarry’s serve, saved one in the tie-breaker and 20 minutes after having frittered away the previous chances, managed to win it 8-6 in the tie-breaker.
