Ugo Carabelli v Jaime Faria Head to Head
Lucky losers Carabelli and Faria have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Carabelli Makes it Two in Two for the First Time
Ugo Carabelli had never won successive matches in the main draw of an ATP event before this.
And when he had been knocked out of the competition in the second qualifier, falling to Marcelo Barrios Vera, it looked like another tournament had passed without Carabelli having had the chance to do that.
Four days on, that seems to have changed as Carabelli shocked Pedro Martinez in the first round and then defeated Damir Dzumhur in the second to clinch a place in the quarterfinals.
He won 6-4, 6-4 against Dzumhur in a match that lasted an hour and 47 minutes, having not had too many problems getting past his opponent’s serve in either set.
Carabelli now takes on a fellow lucky loser in the quarterfinals.

Faria Shocks Munar
Juan Manuel Cerundolo had sent Jaime Faria out in the second qualifier here but his comeback has been spectacular.
Faria made the main draw as a lucky loser as well and rather interestingly he knocked Marcelo Barrios Vera out – Barrios Vera had defeated Carabelli in the qualifiers – in the first round despite starting a 13/10 favourite.
And in the second round, Faria caused an even bigger upset when he took down Jaume Munar despite being a 11/5 underdog, defeating him 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in a match that went on for a tad over two hours.
While Faria was broken twice, both those times happened in the second set even as he was able to get the better of his opponent’s serve in both, the opening and third set.
Munar was 7-3 for the season on win-loss and had displayed an excellent turnaround in form but couldn’t match up to the tencacity of Faria.
Carabelli v Faria Prediction
This is a quarterfinal match between two lucky losers and to tell you how rare an occurrence this this is, the last time it happened on the ATP Tour, it was in 2021 and even that was the first ever since 1990.
What that means is we could see a fighting battle between the two that goes the distance.
