Muller Makes it Three Upsets in a Row with Cerundolo Win
Alexandre Muller had some form going for him at the start of this season after he won the Hong Kong Open at the start of the year but then lost in the first rounds at the next three tournaments.
Which is why, when he took to court for his opener against Joao Fonseca, Muller had started a whopping 7/2 underdog. He won that in straight sets.
The was then 8/5 to defeat Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Again, in straight sets, Muller clinched a victory.
And come the quarterfinals against Francisco Cerundolo, who was the finalist at the Argentina Open last week, Muller began a 17/10 underdog.
He did it again. In a match lasting an hour and 18 minutes, Muller overcame Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1 to reach the semifinal and along with that will make his debut in the top 50 of the ATP Rankings next week.
This will also be the third time in his career that Muller will feature in a semifinal with his record reading 2-0 in his favour at this stage of the tournament.
