Daniil Medvedev v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
In their eight previous meetings, Medvedev has won seven matches to Struff’s only win that came in Halle in 2021.
They last met in Marseille a little over a week ago and Medvedev grabbed a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Medvedev Form A Suspect
It has been a disappointing season for Daniil Medvedev so far, made worse by his abrupt finish to his campaign at the Qatar Open last week.
Medvedev had just lost the first set of his quarterfinal to Felix Auger-Aliassime when he suddenly informed the umpire he was retiring from the match and walked off. There were no handshakes with Auger-Aliassime and he walked away immediately.
Later, Medvedev revealed that he had suffered food poisoning and was in no position to continue, making an already difficult season go worse.
He had earlier started off the year at the Australian Open and lost in the second round before finishing the Rotterdam Open with one win and one loss. Medvedev finally successive matches in Marseille before losing to Hamad Medjedovic.
Can he shrug off his 6-4 record for the year and turn things around here?

Struff Equally in a Strife
While Daniil Medvedev has shown some signs of recovery more recently despite being way off his best, his opponent in this match Jan-Lennard Struff has been struggling to get going for a while now.
Struff did overcome the rather low-ranked Manuel Guinard and Hugo Grenier in Marseille before his loss to Medvedev but then followed that up with an opening loss at the Qatar Open. There he lost to Tallon Griekspoor.
On the other side of those two wins in Marseille were three successive losses for Struff which came at Auckland, Australian Open and Rotterdam Open. Gael Monfils, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Fabian Marozsan had gotten the better of him in those matches.
As a result, Struff will enter the new week ranked 45th in the world but with a bit of good news in that he has no points to defend having been bundled out of the first round of this competition last year.
A confidence-inspiring showing, even if in a defeat is what Struff would be gunning for.
Medvedev v Struff Prediction
Medvedev shouldn’t have too many issues here if he has recovered fully from his food poisoning and we expect him to run off to a straight set win.
Medvedev v Struff Tips
- Medvedev to win in straight sets: 8/11
