Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard v Zhizhen Zhang Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2024 Cincinnati Masters in which Zhang had won in straight sets to progress to the second round.
Mpetshi Perricard Hasn’t Played Since Australian Open
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has been tipped to be one of the players to watch out this season and he looked like he had begun the year in the manner everyone expected out of him.
The Frenchman made his way to the semifinals of the Brisbane International with wins over Nick Kyrgios, Frances Tiafoe and Jakub Mensik but his run was then halted by Reilly Opelka there.
That should have been enough to a look in to his own rhythm and might have shrugged off any rustiness heading into the Australian Open but Mpetshi Perricard into the in-form Gael Monfils in the first round there.
He lost in five sets and since then has taken part in only the Davis Cup in which he played one singles match.
With no matches played in three weeks, Mpetshi Perricard will hope to get going yet again this season and kick-start with a win.

Zhang 4-7 for the Season
It’s been a rather ordinary start to the season for Zhizhen Zhang who has won four matches spread across seven tournaments. Take his Davis Cup win away and he is on a 3-7 win-loss record for the season.
Zhang looked to have found some of his rhythm back when he took to court at the Marseille Open when he made the quarterfinals with wins over Quentin Halys and Hubert Hurkacz.
Unfortunately for Zhang, he was forced to retire from that match against Zizou Bergs before losing to Luca Nardi in his opening round encounter at the Qatar Open.
And now he takes on a highly-talented opponent who can find his way around player ranked around 50 in the world. Zhang will hope that the time away from the game recently might have made things a tad more difficult for Mpetshi Perricard because otherwise it’s going to get equally tough for him too.
Mpetshi Perricard v Zhang Prediction
Backing Mpetshi Perricard to storm into the second round with a straight-set win over Zhang despite his three-week absence. Zhang might put up a fight in one of the sets but that’s as far as it might go.
