Matteo Berrettini v Gael Monfils Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players, at the 2019 US Open, 2021 ATP Cup and 2022 Australian Open and Berrettini has won every single time.
Berrettini Coming off Doha Quarterfinals
Matteo Berrettini hadn’t made much of a start to the season with a first round defeat in Brisbane and another opening loss in Rotterdam while winning just one match at the Australian Open.
That win had come against Cameron Norrie but while that should have given him some confidence, the Brit himself has been struggling for any kind of form.
There has been some change in Berrettini’s fortunes more recently, when he took to court in Doha.
The former Wimbledon finalist shocked Novak Djokovic in the first round there – only his second win of the season – and he went on to then beat Tallon Griekspoor to enter the quarterfinals. It was his first such appearance since Vienna last year.
While Berrettini fell to Jack Draper in the last eight stage, he will take some confidence from it and hope for another such set of results when he takes to court in Dubai.

Monfils Hasn’t Played Since Australian Open
Gael Monfils is 38 years old but the manner in which he has played this season it’s looked like age has just been a number for him.
A two-time semifinalist at the ATP Dubai, Monfils took to court for the first time this year in Brisbane where he was put to the sword by Novak Djokovic in the second round.
A few days later, Monfils had gone on to win the title in Auckland, his first in nearly two years.
And to prove his performance there was no flash in the pan, Monfils came back at the Australian Open to grab a fourth round spot with wins over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Daniel Altmaier and Taylor Fritz.
It took Ben Shelton a rather long time before Monfils retired from that fourth round match with a back injury.
Monfils comes back after nearly a month of break and if he’s fully fit, that might actually work in his favour. Still, beating Berrettini might not be the easiest job on hand.
Berrettini v Monfils Prediction
