Tomas Martin Etcheverry v Hugo Gaston Preview
Head-to-Head: Etcheverry and Gaston have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry’s struggles this season have seeped over on to clay as well with the Argentine entering this competition on the back of a 5-6 win-loss record for the year and 1-2 on clay.
He featured in both the previous South American competitions, in Buenos Aires and Rio and while he was sent packing in the first round of the former, Etcheverry managed a second round appearance at the latter.
While the defeat in Argentina at the hands of Joao Fonseca might have been on expected lines given his opponent’s form, he would be wondering what’s changed when he fell to Alexandre Muller in Rio.
Etcheverry has a slightly easier opener against Hugo Gaston who has stumbled through most part of this season so far.
Gaston’s only win in 2025 came in the first round of the Australian Open where he defeated Omar Jasika, an Aussie wildcard still finding his feet at even the lower circuit.
Other than that, Gaston has won just one set and his defeats have come to Yannick Hanfmann and Yosuke Watanuki, two players themselves struggling at this level.
This could result in a straightforward win for Etcheverry.
Etcheverry v Gaston prediction: Etcheverry to win in straight sets: 4/6

Yannick Hanfmann v Facundo Diaz Acosta Preview
Head-to-Head: There have been three previous meetings between these two players – one on the ITF circuit in 2022 and the others in the qualifiers of the 2023 Australian Open and Houston Open. Hanfmann leads 2-1 including one win on clay.
A quarterfinalist in this very tournament in 2022 and 2023, Yannick Hanfmann has a lot to do if he wants a repeat of that showing this year as well.
Because the German, who is now ranked 101st in the world, enters this tournament on the back of just one win at the highest level and that came in the Davis Cup earlier this year. Other than that, Hanfmann has suffered first round losses in Brisbane, Adelaide and Australian Open before failing to win even the qualifiers in Rio last week.
The only solace for Hanfmann is he will be up against a player ranked 18 places behind him and one who is coming off a three-match losing streak himself.
Facundo Diaz Acosta had made the quarterfinals of the Auckland Open after starting out as a lucky loser but since then he suffered an injury at the Australian Open and lost his openers in Argentina and Rio.
Still, we think he has a better shot at winning this than the totally out of sorts Hanfmann.
Hanfmann v Acosta prediction: Acosta to win: 11/20
Laslo Djere v Ignacio Buse Preview
Head-to-Head: There has been one previous meeting between these two which came on the Challenger circuit last year and Djere had won that in three sets.
Laslo Djere will be a relieved man having delivered the kind of performance that he did at the Argentina Open.
Once ranked 27th in the world, Djere had come into the Buenos Aires tournament ranked 114th and hadn’t won a single main draw match for the season.
He was forced to feature in the qualifiers there in which he scraped past his opponents before defeating Alexandre Muller, Alejandro Tabilo and Thiago Seyboth Wild to make it to the semifinals. As a result he also broke into the top 100 on the rankings.
He gave the Rio Open a miss and resumes his clay court action against Peruvian Ignacio Buse who has never been ranked better than 209th in the world.
Buse has featured in six tournaments this season – including four Challengers – and the only time he has won a match is in the qualifier of the Oeiras Challenger.
Going up against an in-form Djere, Buse will have to punch way about his weight to have any chances.
Djere v Buse prediction: Djere to win in straight sets: 4/5
Luciano Darderi v Jaime Faria Preview
Head-to-Head: Their only previous meeting came in the 2022 Oeiras Challenger where Darderi had won the qualifier for the loss of just one game.
Luciano Darderi’s form has taken such a back-flip that it’s hard to understand what’s going on. Having hit a career-high ranking of 32nd in the world late last year, Darderi has fallen to 61st at the moment and that has been down to that very struggling form.
The Cordoba Open winner last year, Darderi began the season with three successive first round exits in hardcourt competitions but when things seem to have gotten worse on clay too.
At the Argentina Open he was dumped out in straight sets by Francisco Cerundolo and while he registered his first win of the year at Rio last week, it came the courtesy of a retirement by Hugo Dellien.
Cerundolo took him out again in the second round. As compared to that, Jaime Faria is slowly crawling up the rankings having won a round at the Australian Open and then making it as far as the quarterfinals in Rio last week.
A solid showing in this tournament could propel Faria towards his first appearance in the top 100 of the ATP Rankings but Darderi could still be a dangerous opponent despite his form.
Darderi v Faria prediction: Three sets in the match: 5/4
