Nicolas Jarry v Ugo Carabelli Preview
Head-to-Head: While they have never faced off in a competitive match at the highest level there have been five previous meetings at the Challengers and qualifiers of ATP events and Jarry leads 4-1. On clay it’s 3-1 in Jarry’s favour.
If Nicolas Jarry is looking for any inspiration at this point of time, then he might want to look no further than his performance in this very tournament in 2023 when he clinched the Santiago Open title. It was his career’s second title.
And he might need that inspiration given what has transpired for Jarry this year, having won just three matches from four tournaments. On clay, he is 1-2 for the season having scraped to a first round victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo in Rio last week.
He has a tough one first up here in Santiago needing to get past Ugo Carbelli, who had made the main draw in Rio as a lucky loser and then gone on to make the semifinals there.
Earlier, Carabelli had also won a title on the Challenger circuit and while he is an 8/5 underdog here, it might not be that much of a gulf between these two players.
Jarry v Carabelli prediction: Carabelli to win a set – Yes: 7/10

Mariano Navone v Alexander Shevchenko Preview
Head-to-Head: This will be their first meeting.
A quarterfinalist at the Argentina Open was followed by a second round exit at the Rio Open for Mariano Navone but he will be reasonably pleased with his effort on clay this season.
Especially after having won just one match across three hardcourt competitions to kick-start the year.
Navone’s biggest moment of glory for the season came in Buenos Aires where he defeated Holger Rune and while he lost to Sebastian Baez recently in Rio, it wasn’t without a fight.
He takes on the 103rd-ranked Alexander Shevchenko who had a modest start to the season and has followed that up with his clay court appearance for the year in Rio last week.
Shevchenko overcame Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves in the first round there before going down fighting to Alexander Zverev in the second which should give him some hope coming into this one.
We think he could snap up a set.
Navone v Shevchenko prediction: Shevchenko to win a set – Yes: 8/11
Corentin Moutet v Damir Dzumhur Preview
Head-to-Head: There was one previous meeting between these two and that came in the qualifiers of the Italian Open in 2024. Moutet had won that in straight sets.
Corentin Moutet had made a decent start to the season despite preferring to kick-start it at the Australian Open where he made the third round. Wins over Alexei Popyrin and Mitchell Krueger would have been a shot in his arm.
A loss to Learner Tien followed in that competition before Moutet switched over to the clay courts of Buenos Aires – unsurprisingly given his record on clay.
He defeated Sumit Nagal in the opener there but since then has lost back to back matches to Lorenzo Musetti and Tomas Martin Etcheverry and now enters this tournament knowing he will need to turn things around quickly before the two Masters events on hardcourt surfaces.
Not that things would get any easy despite facing someone ranked 97th in the world in the form of Damir Dzumhur. Dzumhur had ended the 2023 season ranked 154th in the world but has come back well thanks to the six Challenger titles he won last year.
He made the second round in Rio with a win over Dusan Lajovic but will be gunning for a lot more consistency come the start of this tournament. Could turn out to be a tough battle for both.
Moutet v Dzumhur prediction: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
Tomas Barrios Vera v Federico Coria Preview
Head-to-Head: This a match between two players ranked in their 130s and the head to head, albeit on the Challengers and Futures circuit reflects that with Barrios Vera holding a 3-2 edge.
Tomas Barrios Vera is gunning for his maiden main draw win of the season having featured in just his first main draw match of the year last week.
That came in Rio where he was forced to come through the qualifiers to clinch a spot against Jaime Faria but he went on to lose in straight sets there.
He faces a former world number 49 in Federico Coria who has fallen off the rankings cliff rather drastically. He is 138th in the world and that’s after he began the year in the top 100.
Having made the second round of this tournament last year too, Coria will look to take inspiration from his quarterfinal showings in the two Challenger events he’s played and the second round he made at the Argentina Open after starting out as a lucky loser.
At 6/5, a Coria win looks like a tempting option.
Barrios Vera v Coria prediction: Coria to win: 6/5
