Ben Shelton v Flavio Cobolli Head to Head
There have been two previous times that these two have faced off and Shelton won them both, at the 2024 Geneva Open and Washington Open.
Shelton Hoping to Continue Australian Open Form
Ben Shelton roared into contention of making it to the top 10 of the ATP Rankings when he hit his best ever Grand Slam performance earlier this year at the Australian Open.
The American made it to the semifinals there at the expense of Lorenzo Musetti, Lorenzo Sonego, Gael Monfils and Brandon Nakashima before it took Jannik Sinner to end his campaign.
He followed that up with an appearance in Dallas early this month but only made it as far as the second round, losing to Jaume Munar.
Shelton has had a bit of a break now and will hope he can prepare for the next main stopover in the USA for the Indian Wells and Miami Masters with a solid showing here in this competition.
Facing a player who has had a better clay court record in his career, it might not be that big a challenge for him.

Cobolli on a Five-Match Losing Streak
Flavio Cobolli looked to have made a strong start to the season when he helped Italy make the quarterfinals at the United Cup by winning a couple of singles matches. He had defeated Dominic Stricker and Ugo Humbert there.
Since then, however, Cobolli hasn’t won a match.
He lost in that United Cup quarterfinals to Tomas Machac and then went on a five-match losing run that has included defeats to Luca Nardi, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, Jesper de Jong and Hubert Hurkacz.
Cobolli has a tough opener here, and it would take a lot out of him if he wants to prevent a sixth straight defeat.
Shelton v Cobolli Prediction
Shelton shouldn’t have a lot of trouble here despite coming back from a two and a half week break. Backing him to clinch this in straight sets.
Shelton v Cobolli Tips
- Shelton to win in straight sets: 5/6
