Sebastian Baez v Ugo Carabelli Head to Head
This must be some record. These two players had featured four times on the Futures circuit and once in Challengers before the start of this season.
This year, they have faced off at the Argentina Open and Rio Open, both of which were won by Baez and now they take on each other in Santiago as well – making it their third meeting in as many weeks.
Baez Eases Past Dzumhur
Damir Dzumhur had promised a lot coming into this quarterfinal against Sebastan Baez given the kind of fighting form he had shown but the Argentine proved to be too good for him.
With a first round bye and a rather cagey second round victory over Francisco Comesana in the second round in which Baez needed a tie-breaker in the third set to come through.
Against Dzumhur, however, things were far easier for Baez who registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
In a match lasting an hour and 36 minutes, Baez shrugged off four breaks of serves in the match including three in the second set to grab his spot in the semis.
This was Baez’s seventh successive victory having clinched the Rio Open last week.
Can he continue his impressive run to make it two finals in as many weeks?

Carabelli Blows Coria Away
Much like his semifinal opponent, Ugo Carabelli has been in some top form as well and other than that loss to Baez in the semifinal at the Rio Open, he now holds a 6-1 win-loss recover over his past seven matches.
The sixth of those victories came in the quarterfinals of the Santiago Open in which he defeated Federico Coria 6-4, 6-3 in a match lasting an hour and 30 minutes.
And in much like a similar fashion as the Baez match, Carabelli was broken multiple times too – four to be exact – but it was his stellar returning that ensured there would be no looking back for him.
Carabelli earned 15 break-points in the encounter and got the better of his opponent’s serve on a whopping six occasions and that’s despite the match seeing no breaks of serves from either players in the first seven games.
Can Carabelli now turn things around given his recent record against Baez?
