Held once in four years, the tennis events at the Summer Olympics are one of the most awaited competitions in the world of tennis.

While there are no team tournaments at the Olympics, players clamour to qualify for these competitions and add a glittering medal to their country’s tally and another feather in their own caps.

The first time that tennis was held as a part of the Summer Olympics was in 1896 but following the 1924 event it was discontinued. It was then held as an exhibition event in 1984 before making a comeback in 1988.

It’s been held at every Summer Olympics since then.

The tennis events which will form a part of the tennis competition at the Summer Olympics include:

  • Men’s Singles
  • Women’s Singless
  • Men’s Doubles
  • Women’s Doubles
  • Mixed Doubles
