What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Berlin Ladies Open?

In what turned out to be a relief to the out of form Jessica Pegula, she went on to lift the title at the 2024 WTA Berlin Ladies Open by defeating surprise finalist Anna Kalinskaya in the final. In a match that lasted three sets of which two of them went into tie-breakers, Pegula saved five match-points against Kalinskaya to lift her fifth WTA title.

It was her first of the season and first on grass and saw Pegula defeat Donna Vekic, Katerina Siniakova and Cori Gauff on her way to the final.

Kalinskaya, on the other hand, was aided by fitness woes to her opponents after Marketa Vondrousova pulled out of her second round match and Aryna Sabalenka then retired from their quarterfinal because of fitness concerns.

She then needed three sets to get past Victoria Azarenka to make the final.

What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the WTA Berlin Ladies Open?

Petra Kvitova clinched her 31st title at the highest level of women’s tennis when she overcame Donna Vekic in the final of the Berlin Ladies Open.

In what turned out to be a strong display of performances during the entire competition, Kvitova did not drop a single set and was broken a mere three times over the five matches that she played.

Starting out as the seventh seed in the tournament, Kvitova overcame former world number one Karolina Pliskova in the first round before routing Nadia Podoroska in the second. A tough win over Caroline Garcia followed soon after before she ended Ekaterina Alexandrova’s run in the semifinals.

In the final, Kvitova emerged a 6-2, 7-6 (6) winner.
