What Happened in the 2025 Edition of the WTA Hobart International?
McCartney Kessler, who had made her WTA debut in 2024, went on to win her maiden title at this level when she lifted the 2025 edition of the Hobart International.
She defeated Elise Mertens in the final, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to claim the win.
Mertens, who was the second seed in the competition had a decent run in the tournament with wins over Veronika Kudermetova and Maya Joint just before the final.
On the other hand, Kessler surprised the seventh seeded Rebecca Sramkova, top seeded Dayana Yastremska and the sixth seeded Elina Avanesyan on her way to the title-decider round.
What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Hobart International?
In a match between the top two seeds of the competition the second seeded Emma Navarro overcame a stiff challenge from the top seeded Elise Mertens in the title decider to grab her maiden WTA title. She won 6–1, 4–6, 7–5.
Interestingly, of the eight seeded players who featured in the tournament, just one other than the aforementioned couple made the quarterfinals and none beyond.
Mertens shocked Danielle Collins in the first round and did not have too much trouble getting to the semifinal where she was taken to three sets by Daria Saville.
On the other hand, Navarro needed three sets in the first round against Clara Burel and then again against Viktoriya Tomova in the quarterfinals.
