Played as a part of the WTA 250 series, the women’s Rosmalen Grass Court Championships has been around since 1996, six years after the men’s Rosmalen competition was started. What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Libema Open?
Second seeded Liudmilla Samsonova prevented a third successive trophy for Ekaterina Alexandrova at this competition by defeating her in the semifinal in three sets before clinching the trophy when she edged out Bianca Andreescu in the final.
Samsonova came back from being a set down to defeat Andreescu 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 and lifted the trophy.
Earlier in the competition, the top seeded Jessica Pegula, who was returning to competitive tennis following the missing of the French Open, made the second round but was toppled by Aleksandra Krunic there.
Naomi Osaka defeated the fourth seeded Elise Mertens in the opening round itself but was lost the battle of former US Open champions to Andreescu in a close quarterfinal.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the WTA Libema Open?
Defending champion Ekaterina Alexandrova made it two title victories in a row when she defeated fellow Russian Veronika Kudermetova in a gruelling final to lift the trophy.
Alexandrova came back from a set down to overcome Kudermetova 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) after having dished out a straight-set drubbing of Aryna Sabalenka in the previous season.
Having started off as the fourth seed, Alexandrova did not waste too much time in her opening win over Evgeniya Rodina before coming through against Kimberly Birrell in the second.
Qualifier Emina Bektas was blown away in the quarterfinals before she registered her fourth successive straight-set win in the semifinal against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
